Rainbow Arabia, the brainchild of Echo Park, CA, husband/wife duo Tiffany and Danny Preston (formerly of the dub-punks Future Pigeon), tread curiously close to the sounds of hip-hop acts like M.I.A. and Santogold. But with freewheelin' ideals, punk urgency, and Middle Eastern-inspired instrumentation, Rainbow Arabia manage to find a tone all their own.

It's easy to imagine the men of schizoid country-rock outfit Blitzen Trapper as werewolves: They possess split personalities (check) that alternate between the gentle and the manic (double check) while sprouting unseemly hair in the process (indeed, much of the band sport furry beards).

The bright-sounding brass that kicks off Brit-rock sensations the Rumble Strips' "Time" might be discomfortingly reminiscent of the ill-fated ska movement, but don't fret: the Mighty Mighty Bosstones these guys ain't.

It makes sense, then, that "Id Engager," the final track from Of Montreal's forthcoming long-player, Skeletal Lamping, concerns itself with the engagement of hedonistic impulses.
